“I am trying to develop action in visual relationships- this visual narration of mine is based on short dialogues between shapes, colours, and spaces. In my painting I am trying to single out characteristic issues, and mainly, I am looking for a “jewel”. Such a jewel is a visual point that is essential for a given composition. I am always pleased when I find good space in my composition that can be utilized and fine-tuned well. Another very interesting feature of painting, from a psychological point of view, is the opportunity to enrich my paintings with a lot of emotions, whether positive or negative, or just any kind of emotions, by means of colours.” (DB)
The consistent and deeply captivating painting creativity of David Baffi has passed through the stages of “nearly humorous, easy going, ironical compositions to the most recent objectless visual compositions”. Regarding the ideological and conceptual side of his work, Baffi continues his individual everlasting search for the possibilities of brush strokes and the effects of a pictorial structure, as well as for discovering and cultivating forever new pictorial spaces.
“What is painted is nothing more than a visual space, a visual structure. He approaches the two-dimensional vehicle of painting like a sculptor- his artwork’s relief is not modified by adding layers, but colours; he orchestrates the space, he fills the picture with micro-events and wealth of relationships (sets of trifles and details) that do not allow the entire whole painting to level off. David’s work of art is a deep and in depth research of all that is visible; no words can express the experience that he gains in the process of this experimenting.” (zNL)
