“Things that I experience, feel and take in often disturb me, so I do create from within. I make use of every free moment to reproduce my ideas and depict them. The information given by the recipients, or anybody from the surroundings, would delete my ideas, and it would be difficult for me to find the way back.” (MB)

Marko Blazo, a well known Slovak graphic artist and a pedagogue (Department of Art, Technical University in Kosice), has multiple talents at his disposal – he is an author of numerous paintings, drawings, computer graphics, arrangements as well as fine paper 3D objects and photos. Blazo systematically works on a single theme- inspired by his childhood, but with a perfect detachment and a visual inventor’s humour, he creates a new world- a world of the changed rules of play, but above all, a world that is full of “visual discrepances”. He combines simple and familiar motifs (to mention some of the most obsessive ones: trains, rails, a key-hole, a tower, different architectonic schemes and models), turns them around, and forces them to behave in a different manner. For example, he likes to quote well known architectonic works, and use them in full, or as fragments in his new contexts. In this way he creates surreal and absurd constructions that are perfectly functional. “Blazo does not rest with playing with words; he creates image poetry,” he cultivates “economic and precise descriptive language of a metaphor.” His unique poetry of paradox originates in conceptual art tradition; at the same time it surpasses it in direction of the witty and playful visualization that is attractive for the viewers. Marko Blazo, by his art work, explains and proves that “everything is possible”.

In 1999 he attended (as a part of a group project Slovak Art for Free) the Venice Biennial, and in 2001 he was a recipient of Oskar Cepan’s Award.
